Dr. Evelyn C.R. Cheramgoi-Entomologist

Dr. Evelyn C.R. Cheramgoi joined former Tea Research Foundation of Kenya as a Senior Research Officer in Plant Protection Department in February 2008.  Previously, she worked as an Agricultural Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture at Nairobi area and later at headquarter as a Senior Agricultural Officer where she worked in the projects monitoring and evaluation unit.  She has also worked in the Pest Control Products Board (PCPB) as a PCP registration offices coupled with inspector of PCPs premises. Currently, Dr. Evelyn is in charge of Integrated Pest and Disease (IPDM) section.

She holds BSc (Agriculture) and MSc (Crop Protection) degrees both from the University of Nairobi. She has submitted and successfully defended a thesis on D.Phil (Entomology), University of Eldoret. She has published widely and participated in many workshops and conferences. She is an active committee member of the Professional Trainers Association of Kenya (PTAK).

 

Joel Kiprop Langat joined TRFK in May 1983 as a Research Assistant in Plant Protection Department.

He is currently the Chief Laboratory Technologist and holds Higher Diploma (1997) and Ordinary Diploma (1989) in Applied Biology, both from Kenya Polytechnic. Joel has over 20 years working experience in Plant Protection Department, and has published some papers and participated in several workshops/seminars.

 


Lilian Chebet Kerio-Biochemist

Lilian Chebet Kerio joined TRFK as an Assistant Research Officer in 2005.

She works in the Chemistry Department and has over 5 years’ experience in tea quality analysis as well as health aspects of tea. She holds an MSc in Biochemistry and a BSc degree from Egerton University.

She has trained on the use of High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC), Gas Chromatograph (GC) and UV-Vis Spectrophotometers. She has also worked on antioxidant activity of tea in vitro and in vivo and currently researching on anthocyanins in tea as part of her PhD thesis research.

 

Paul Chelule Rotich-Ag Officer in Charge at TRI Kangaita Centre

 Paul Chelule Rotich joined Tea Research Foundation of Kenya in November 1994 as a Research Assistant in the Field Advisory Department, Kericho Hqs.

He is currently a Field Advisory Officer (East of Rift) and Acting Officer in Charge at TRI Kangaita Centre, Kirinyaga. He holds a Certificate in Agriculture and a Diploma in Agriculture from Bukura Agricultural College.

He has over 15 years in the area of Technology Transfer, Field Advisory and Extension services.

 

 

David Kipsang Marusoi -Estate Manager

David Kipsang Marusoi  joined Tea Research Foundation of Kenya in August 1995 as the Farm Manager.

Previously he worked as an Assistant Agricultural Officer, Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Field Officer, Nyayo Tea Zone Development Corporation while on secondment from MoA, and Farm Manager, Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI). He holds a Diploma in Agricultural Engineering from Egerton University and Bachelors in Business Management.

Has had over 25 years of Research Farm management.

 

 

Peter Wizula Shigali-Deputy Principal Clinical Officer

Peter Wizula Shigali joined TRFK as a Senior Clinical Officer, Paediatrics in charge of the medical department in October 2009.

Previously he was working with the Ministry of Health as a Clinical Officer, Pediatrics. He has over 15 years’ experience working in the Medical Sector.

Peter holds a higher diploma in clinical medicine and surgery, paediatrics and a diploma in clinical medicine and surgery and BSc in Clinical Medicine. He is a clinical instructor/facilitator in integrated Management of Childhood illnesses. He has certificate in the management and care of HIV/AIDS in both adults and paediatrics. He is also a mentor in HIV/AIDS management.

Simon Oduor Ochanda-Food Scientist

Simon Oduor Ochanda joined Tea Research Foundation of Kenya (TRFK) as food Scientist in 2010. He previously worked as a Research Assistant at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and a laboratory Analyst in Kapa Oil Refinery Ltd.

Simon’s Field of interest is in Product Development, Value addition to food biotechnology.

He holds a diploma in Food Science and Technology (MPUC), BSC, Food Science and Post Harvest Technology, MSc in Food Science and Technology (JKUAT) and is current pursuing his PhD in Egerton University.
