Fifty three cattle, aged one year and above randomly drawn from different area of Kenya were shown by means of routine meat inspection to have a cysticercosis prevalence rate of 43 percent. Total meat dissection however demonstrated a prevalence rate of 72 percent with live cysts and a further 23 percent with calcified cysts. Only 3 animals (5 percent) showed no evidence of present or previous infection with cysticerci. Further studies to determine the true prevalence of cysticercosis will be carried out as these results seem to indicate a very high prevalence.
