Abstract:
A trial to determine the degree of weed control required under the prevailing rainfall condition at Koru and to investigate the effect of green manure cover crops on coffee yields was laid in 5x5 Latin square plots of 15 trees. Five weeding and green manure treatments were used. Cover crop treatments reduced yields by 39 percent and 52 percent compared with clean weeded coffeewhile partial weeding reduced yields by 155 percent and 48 percent respectively. Over a five year period, there was no significant difference between clean weeded coffee and cover crop treatments of beans and Desmodium Uncinatum. Two partial weeding reduced yields significantly compared with clean weeding.
