KALRO and Partners Improve Forage and Livestock Production in The ASALS
KALRO Arid and Range Lands Research Institute in partnership with the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), Narok, Kajiado and Taita Taveta County governments are collaborating to implement Integrated and Climate Smart Innovations for Agro-Pastoralists Economies and Landscapes (ICSIAPL) Project. The project is co-funded by the European Union and the Government of Netherlands at cost of Sh53 million project will come to an end next year.
The goal of ICSIAPL is to build a more resilient and market-based solutions to improve forage production and livestock husbandry. The technologies being transferred include natural pasture improvement, suitable grasses and fodder legumes for ASALS, seed bulking management practices and livestock supplementary feeding. So far partners 6,500 farmers have been trained, resulting to 40% adoption.
