Improvement of Incomes and Nutrition of Dairy Farmers and Agro-Pastoralists in Loitokitok

This is a collaborative activity between the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) and Inua Maisha LTD together with farmers in Loitokitok with financial support from ASAL APRP. The overall aim of the activity is to improve the incomes and as well as nutrition of dairy farmers in Loitokitok Sub county, Kajiado County.
One of the approach adopted by KALRO and partners is to build the capacity of farmers to better handle feed shortage, milk hygiene and with support of Inua Maisha develop milk collection system and have better linkage with other chain actors. Training of chain actors was therefore organized and implemented in Kimana, Entarara, Olchoro, Munyura and Elerai with the aim of exposing them to the various knowledge, information and technologies (KITs) developed by researchers in KALRO.
