Great reduction in maturity period of green gram

Farmers will have a reason to smile when a new early maturing, drought-tolerant and high yielding green gram variety will be made available. It is especially suited for dry areas. This follows research work done at KALRO-Katumani. The research work was supported by ASAL-APRP. The variety is in the final steps towards certification, a process that involves the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) and other breeders. The ASAL-APRP review team visited the trial site at KALRO-Kiboko where the PI, Rael Karimi broke the good news. KALRO will work with seed companies to ensure that seed is available for the 2017 growing season.
