The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) was established as a premier national research organization under the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research (KALR) Act No. 17 of 2013 as a successor of the four former agricultural research institutions; Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), Tea Research Foundation (TRF), Coffee Research Foundation (CRF) and Kenya Sugar Research Foundation (KESREF). The Act culminated in the Kenya agricultural research reform process which started with the development of vision 2030, the country’s development blueprint launched in 2007. The operations of the organization have been guided by its mandate which was operationalized through its Strategic Plan.
