Genetic Resources Research Institute (GeRRI) is located at the former KARI Muguga South, 28 km from Nairobi, in Kiambu County. Muguga located at an altitude of 2200 metres above sea-level has a bimodal rainfall pattern and provides naturally cool temperatures that are conducive for genetic resources conservation.
Institute Mandate The broad mandate of the Genetic Resources Research Institute is to conserve plant genetic resources through germplasm collection, characterization, evaluation and generation of genetic materials, documentation and dissemination of plant genetic resources and data, capacity building and catalyzing the development of policies governing the conservation and use of plant genetic resources.
